Solar refrigerators run without a compressor motor running on electricity, which is exactly why they suit off-grid homes and remote locations — a conventional fridge in a house without reliable power spends most of the day in a fight against ambient heat.
Two designs are common: direct-drive, where solar powers the compressor continuously and the unit needs no battery at all for a working day, and battery-backed, which stores energy so it also runs at night and through cloudy spells.
Direct-drive is simpler, cheaper to install and extremely low maintenance, but it does nothing at night. Battery-backed gives you 24-hour operation at the cost of a bank, a charge controller and a much higher capital figure.
Deciding which one you need is really a question of how many hours of darkness you need to cover, and how reliable your solar resource is. Our peak sun hours guide has the regional data for Nigeria, and our solar sizing guide covers sizing the array.
Enquire about solar refrigerator availability and we will size the panel array to your location and usage pattern.
